Smiths Beach Rescue Base installedSmiths Beach Rescue Base was installed at Smiths Beach, Phillip Island’s most popular beach, on Wednesday 2 May 2018. The base is designed as a satellite facility to Woolamai Beach Surf Life Saving Club, who will staff the base and drove the project to provide an observation tower, first aid facility and shelter for volunteer surf life savers.

The project is the culmination of work from a large group of community supporters and members

  • Major funding arranged by local state member the Hon Brian Paynter MP for a $250,000 grant from Emergency Services Minister The Hon James Merlino MP

  • Rotary Club of Phillip Island and San Remo supported the project in its early phases with a $40,000 grant to help pay for the preliminary work and consulting reports

  • Tract Consulting for a substantial amount of concept work on a pro-bono basis and creating an iconic design

  • The facility has received praise from club members and Smiths Beach locals on how it looks and its profile in the environment

  • Kane Worthy Constructions based in Inverloch for lead construction work on this innovative building
