Vale John Barber
The Board of Woolamai Beach SLSC is saddened to hear of the passing of John Barber. A fantastic contributor to our club! Our thoughts are with John's family at this time.
The information was written by Life Governor, Ron Nicholson:
John Barber or 'JB' as he was known acquired his Bronze Medallion in 1962 and went on to hold the positions of First Aid Officer, Club Captain, Deputy President, and President over the next ten years.
John was a very intelligent and capable guy who did well in the business world and at one stage he was the Australian head of Phillips, the big multi-national electronics company. His work took him overseas for a while and that is probably why he curtailed his Woolamai activities although he and his wife Liz maintained many friendships amongst Woolamai Club members. There was a particularly large group of Woolamites that went skiing together at Hotham & Falls Creek each winter.
Younger brother, Ron, was also a keen and active member who served on the committee for several years and who was also a member of that famous B Grade Boat crew that won the Australian Championship at Glenelg in 1974.
